We chatted with the Dahlstroms to talk about their journey of business ownership, their passion for fashion, and what makes their store a beloved destination for women seeking that perfect outfit in Rochester, Minnesota.
Fashion That Speaks to You
At Hers, you’ll find more than just clothing—you’ll discover a personalized shopping experience. As Bruce shares, one of the most enjoyable aspects of running the store is finding new, trendy items at markets and bringing them back to the store for their customers. It’s not just about selling clothes; it’s about connecting with the community and seeing people light up when they find that perfect piece.
“We get to go out to the markets and find all these cutting-edge fashions and bring them into the store. Having our customers respond to what we bought—that’s really fun,” says Bruce.
Styling for Confidence
Hers isn’t just a store, it’s a place where women come to feel their best. The Dahlstroms take pride in helping their customers find outfits that make them look good and feel even better. Brenda explains, “When they walk out, and they’re happy, that makes us happy.”
This season, Hers is offering popular items like puffer vests and wide-leg jeans. According to Brenda, the thinner puffer vest, often paired with a cozy sweater, is a trendy and comfortable staple this fall. And the wide-leg jeans are a must: “Once you put these on, you’ll never want to go back to skinny jeans.”
A Strong Team
The sense of community at Hers extends to the store’s close-knit staff, a mix of college students and more experienced team members. Some have been with the Dahlstroms for over 15 years. The longevity and camaraderie among the team speak volumes about the store’s positive work environment.
“We just go through life together, the ups and downs, and it’s a lot of fun,” Bruce says.
A Historic Location in Downtown
Hers has been a staple of Downtown Rochester since 1983, and its prime location by the Mayo Clinic draws visitors from all over the world.
“There’s a lot of energy Downtown,” Bruce notes. “Being by the Mayo Clinic has been good for all of us Downtown. It’s fun to see visitors from all over the world coming into our little stores and sharing their experiences.”
Upcoming Events
The Dahlstroms are excited to announce their Holiday Open House, taking place from November 14th to 16th. It’s the perfect opportunity to get into the holiday spirit and shop the latest styles at both Hers and Ontrack Boutique. In addition, Hers hosts regular Facebook Lives where customers can shop directly by calling in. It’s a fun, interactive way to shop, and it’s become a favorite among loyal customers.
