Join us on Zoom, as we explore fashion, photography, drag and what it takes to tell a story through the lens with professional photographers Ben Seagren, Dan Little, Eric Magnussen, Liam James and Trevor Beaty. Learn more about each photographer’s experience capturing still images of Utica Queen featured in the exhibition “Homecoming Queen: The Wonderful World of Utica Queen”.
"Homecoming Queen: The Wonderful World of Utica Queen," is a 4,000-square-foot exhibition showcasing the incredible artistry of Southern Minnesota native and drag performer Ethan Mundt, star of Season 13 of the Emmy-winning pop-culture phenomenon "RuPaul’s Drag Race." The exhibition features 20 of Mundt's self-made garments and accessories, original design sketches, editorial photographs by photographers Ben Seagren, Dan Little, Eric Magnussen, Liam James and Trevor Beaty, and a short documentary by filmmaker Tatyana Kurepina.
"Homecoming Queen '' is the first-ever exhibition that positions a drag performer as a visual artist via their creations and features elements of everything from fashion and photography to pop culture and gender expression. Through this exhibition, the Rochester Art Center demonstrates its commitment to provide a space for communities that have been historically marginalized, like the LGBTQIA+ community, to see themselves represented and celebrated as talented Minnesota artists.
