Join us for a virtual panel discussion with the international artists participating in the exhibition Walk With Us on December 4th at 11.30am, CT. Artists Anastasia Polychronidou (Greece), Modelab (Mexico), Olle Helin (Sweden), Yiannis Pappas (Germany) will share about their artistic process and their relationship with the art of walking.

Curated by Zoe Cinel and John Schuerman, Walk With Us is an international, walking-based art exhibition in which fifteen artists share their discoveries and artistic extrapolations from the social, physical, and psychic landscapes they explored while walking. This exhibition is presented in the non-gallery spaces (hallways, elevators, alcoves, etc.) of the Art Center to reflect both the wandering, wayfinding, and exploratory nature of walking-based art, and the shifting terrain covered by the artists. The exhibition has been extended to March 20, 2023.

Panelist Bios
Anastasia Polychronidou (1991) works between the Netherlands and Greece as a lecturer and a dramaturgy consultant with dancers and choreographers. She studied Dramaturgy and Performance Theory at the Faculty of Fine Arts at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and holds an MFA in Contemporary Theatre, Dance, and Dramaturgy from the Utrecht University. Her research lies in urban politics theory, site-specific methodologies, mobility, feminism, social theories, and labors of participation (the ‘coming together’ of bodies). Alongside, she has advanced knowledge in keeping projects moving, collaborative thinking, facilitating events, developing autonomous practices, and tracking what a project to come is/wants/needs. @anastasia_polychronidou
Modelab is an artistic initiative that explores public space using mappings and experimental historical narratives. Claudia Arozqueta and Rodrigo Azaola devise Modelab. Since 2014, they have promoted interdisciplinary projects in non-traditional spaces, involving a variety of international collaborators, such as visual artists, designers, writers, sound composers, scientists and scholars. From impossible walks through the history of a city to pop-up offices drawing attention to surveillance systems, Modelab projects have occurred in buildings, facades, beaches, retail stores, museums and parks along Paris, Australia, New Zealand, France, Mexico and the Philippines. www.modelab.info
Inspired by the colors of a copper mine visited on a field trip, Swedish artist Olle Helin has worked to extract the vibrancy occurring within our surroundings to produce artwork where pigmentation is not only a tool towards expression, but an opportunity to explore. In Colour Charts, the foraged colors - ranging from dust to bird droppings - recount the topography of the human environment and the artist’s unforeseen paths through urbanity. www./ollehelin.se
Yiannis Pappas is a visual and performance artist born in Greece and currently based in Germany. Throughout Pappas’ work runs a deep fascination for the relation between space and the human body in natural and urban environments. Underscored by a critical interest in space, as sites of physical and symbolic enactment, his artistic work and research explore how different places are sustained collectively and individually throughout history. Yiannis studied at the Athens School of Fine Arts and then at the University of Arts Berlin (UdK). He is the recipient of several awards and his artworks have been exhibited nationally and internationally. Artist and curator Marina Abramovich selected his work as one of the five most prominent in contemporary performance art and curated his presentation at WePresent 2021 and Sky Arts TV UK 2020, such as one of the seven performance artists for the Autom/Winter 2021 issue of AnOther Magazine, UK. www.yiannispappas.com
