Meet at the mural inside of the Rochester Art Center.
Take a guided tour of the Rochester Art Center’s newest exhibition, "home - exploring, mending, reimagining," led by multimedia artist Cecilia Cornejo Sotelo. Her work encompasses a collaborative effort with residents in southeastern Minnesota communities since 2019, and she invites the viewers in Rochester to immerse themselves in a space in which they too can collaborate and be seen, heard and valued.
Cecilia Cornejo Sotelo is a documentary filmmaker, artist, and educator engaging rural communities in southern Minnesota in a multilayered exploration of home. Locally rooted yet globally minded, she examines notions of belonging and the immigrant experience while exploring the traces of historical trauma on people and places. Her experience growing up under dictatorship in her native Chile led her to develop an artistic practice that encourages community members to reflect in order to envision and generate paths toward collective wellbeing.
