Come share your thoughts and ideas about how to leverage downtown’s unique assets to enhance overall connectivity and forge a stronger relationship with the Zumbro River.

The next Riverfront Talk session topic is titled SUSTAINABILITY + ACCESS and will take virtually Tuesday, March 1, 2022- 6:00-7:30 PM. You can still register to attend here. The five-part series will build on prior conversations about enhancing downtown Rochester’s public realm and focus in the area between Broadway and 2nd and 3rd streets.

SUSTAINABILITY + ACCESS
The Zumbro River through downtown is in a concrete channel to facilitate water movement and protect downtown from floods. The channelized condition also means that access to the water is limited. In many downtown locations one cannot even see the water. This session explores strategies for addressing both flood protection and increased public access to the water’s edge.

  • What contemporary urban design strategies are there to address the adverse impacts of climate change and flooding?
  • In what ways can one leverage the trail network to increase connectivity downtown?
  • How can the redesign of the space incorporate green infrastructure and balance parking demands with new development and open space?
  • How can the redesign of the space incorporate green infrastructure and balance parking demands with new development and open space?
