Details

Rochester Symphony presents Inside Rochester: a trio of chamber music concerts from the three musical families in the orchestra: brass, winds and strings, performed in some of Rochester's most iconic venues.

The woodwind quintet presents the most varied sounds of any chamber group—flute, oboe, clarinet, horn and bassoon. And it has the lightest, most agile sound. Our quintet will play wind classics like Jacques Ibert’s Trois Pièces Brèves (French fun) and Malcolm Arnold’s Three Shanties (British sailor songs, not necessarily sober). Plus Christopher Ball’s Scenes from a Comedy (ending with “All’s Well That Ends Well,” which is tricky to make end well) and Valerie Coleman’s moving Umoja (Swahili for unity, one of the elements of Kwanzaa). This is a lively musical program perfect for ushering in Spring. Presented in Les Fields Hall at the Castle.
