Details
Join us and artist Nicole Havekost for a talk about her upcoming solo exhibition Chthonic, November 21, 2020 - February 28, 2021, at the Minneapolis Institute of Art in the U.S. Bank Gallery as part of the prestigious Minnesota Artists Exhibition Program. http://new.artsmia.org/exhibitions/maep/
The artist will share her process and progress working on large scale installations. Her work explores the simultaneous joy, sublime embarrassment, and disorderly beauty of the human body through her anthropomorphic sculptures. By making large soft sculptural forms she directly references the functions and systems of the body. These new figures and forms allow me to explore this growing intimacy and acceptance I have with the organism that is my physical form. The act of sewing is integral to these new forms. The stitch, by piercing, pulling and closing, is both aggressive and restorative. Stitching is an act of accumulation. It is a collection of marks, moments, and attachments that give shape to a form. In undertaking the process of sewing in these figurative forms, I can come to rest in my own body more fully.
