Learn about the art of hand-drawn animation. In this workshop, you will draw sequences of artwork on paper then bring them to life using “Arteater,” a tool that generates animated GIFs from your artwork. The instructor-led activities will touch on several foundational concepts of animation, such as frame-rate, parallax, and compositing. No technical or animation experience is necessary, but a comfort with drawing will be helpful. You will walk away from this workshop with a better understanding of how animated sequences are created, and several hand-drawn custom GIFs you can keep or share with your friends.
Once registered, You may choose to have your drawing kit mailed to you OR pick it up at the Rochester Art Center during our public hours Wed the 17th – Sat the 20th.
The workshop begins at 1:00 via Zoom. Your Zoom link will be emailed on Saturday morning. If you might not be able to attend the live Zoom instruction, but still want to participate, please denote that you would like a recording of the workshop on your registration form.
Participants must have access to a smartphone QR reader / Camera / Internet connection to use the Arteater tool.
All Ages, however, kids under age 12 may feel most comfortable participating alongside their favorite adult or teen! If you would like extra Arteater drawing sheets for your kids, please let us know in the comment section of the registration form below.
