Social-ICE returns February 24-25 with ice, bars, and DJs

ROCHESTER, Minn.—In less than one month, Social-ICE, downtown Rochester’s iconic ice festival, returns in its true form with ice, themed bars, and DJs February 24-25, 2023.

After being adapted because of COVID-19 in recent years, Social-ICE will once again include ice sculptures, themed bars and cocktails, DJ entertainment, and other winter activities, which are the same features as when it was last hosted in 2020. In 2021, the event was adapted to a passive, walk-through experience with ice sculptures and a downtown restaurant meal promotion. In 2022, Social-ICE was adapted to a light-based event that consisted of themed bars and DJs.

“We are thrilled to be kicking off the 2023 event season with the return of Rochester’s favorite winter event Social-ICE and FAM JAM in its Ice format!,” said Kanika Couchene, Rochester Downtown Alliance director of events and strategic partnerships. “So, bundle up and embrace all the winter has to offer. While out, make sure to explore downtown and support the businesses and restaurants.”

This year, a total of six veteran and newcomer bars/restaurants are uniting under one overall theme of decades for Social-ICE, with each focusing and incorporating iconic elements from their chosen era. Participating downtown restaurants include:

The free family day of the event, Social-ICE FAM JAM, will be from 1 to 4 p.m. on February 25 and presented by Mayo Clinic. Activities during Social-ICE FAM JAM include a outdoor games, s’mores from Kraus-Anderson, and more family-friendly fun.

Hours for Social-ICE are from 4 to 10 p.m. each day February 24-25.
